Computer Interest Group (CIG)

The Rochester Genealogical Society (RGS) sponsors a Computer Interest Group (CIG). The purpose of the group is to help those genealogists who are using their personal computer in conjunction with their family research. The CIG has approximately nine monthly meetings a year. The meetings are usually the 2nd Thursday of each month. For exact dates and location, please check the meetings page. Also, the CIG sends out a monthly meeting announcement. The cost of membership in the CIG is only $5 (US). This small fee helps to defray the cost of mailing the meeting announcements and the dues must be combined with RGS membership.

Topics of recent CIG meetings included:

  1. Discussions of, and help with software & hardware problems.
  2. Presentations on new and existing genealogical software.
  3. Use of the Internet for the genealogist.
  4. Updates on known software problems.
  5. Scanning images and text.
  6. Digital photography and editing images.
  7. Explanations of GEDCOM and other terms.
  8. Previews of upcoming computer shows.
  9. Discussions of IBM & MAC.
