We met at the Ganondagan State Historic Site at 1488 Victor-Bloomfield Rd. in Victor on Friday July 20, 2003 at 6 P.M. Each person brought their own picnic dinner to eat under a tent.

RGS Vice-President (Program), Jim Swarts (hat), introduces us to Michael Galban (sitting).

Michael gives us a very well detailed history of the Native Americans of the area. Called Senecas by the white settlers but more rightfully called the Haudenosaunee.

We had to take a walk to see the other part of the program.

This is the bark covered longhouse. It is a reconstruction of the kind of home the Native Americans lived in around this area. It was shared by a whole extended family and kept everyone warm on those cold winter days.

Michael welcomes everyone to to the longhouse.

Inside the longhouse there are benches running along the sides for the entire family to sleep. Also a fire is kept to keep the people warm and cook the food. Vents in the roof let out the smoke from the fire.
