And that’s the case when you visit the Fairport Historical Museum at 18 Perrin St. Enter the neoclassical building and step into a treasure trove of early Perinton history. Exhibits focus on early settlers, farming, canal development, and industry of the area. Archives include plot maps and property records from the late 1700s to 1850, family genealogies, cemetery records, local directories from 1864, and village building surveys. The building, built in 1937 as a WPA project, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside is an amazing 20’ mural painted in 1938 by local artist Carl Peters depicting the history of Perinton from farming to industry.
