Research Finds Around Rochester - Leroy Historical Society

Research at the LeRoy Historical Society

Just 32 miles from Rochester in a beautiful town built along the Oatka Creek is the historic town of LeRoy, the birthplace of Jell-O. And while there is a Jell-O Gallery Museum, you can also tour the 1822 LeRoy House, and do some genealogical research in their library. If you have ancestors that migrated to Western NY from New England in the early 1800s, the library can be a treasure trove of information. According to their website, they have "....books on genealogy, early settlers, family histories, New York State history, Land tracts, LeRoy history, directories, phone books, gazetteers, Church histories, cemetery records, architecture, military history, maps, a large Civil War collection, yearbooks, and much more.  In addition, our Genealogy Files and History Files, arranged by surname, hold information including obits, births, marriages, and family histories."

The Research Library is open whenever the Jell-O-Gallery Museum is open but closed during the months of January, February, and March. However, you can use the library during the winter on Tuesdays by appointment only. Even if your ancestors didn't migrate to the Triangle Tract in Genesee County, the LeRoy Historical Society is a must-see for genealogy and history buffs.
